More about me:
I was born in Huddinge Sweden, February 6th 1981. After my parents split up when I was 1 year old, my dad moved to another city in the northern part of Sweden.
The nature up there is amazing and I grew a great interest in outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking and fishing. Growing up in Sweden my family had pretty healthy eating habits with lots of whole grains and vegetables so a healthy lifestyle has been a part of my life since I was a child.
I have always been a very active person and I tried all kinds of sports growing up. I started playing soccer pretty early and really enjoyed the team spirit and the training so I continued and played for about 8 years. In high school my interest in soccer faded and I found a new passion:
dance. I started taking several classes a week, mostly jazz, hip hop and stret dance. I joined a streetdancegroup and did a buch of performances around the country. All of a sudden I had found something that I really loved to do and I started to see dance as a future profession and to get a better technique I started taking ballet and modern. In high school I also found another passion...food. I started hanging out with my best friend (who could eat whatever she wanted without gaining a pound) and of course I ate just as much as she did. I'm talking pizza, burgers, chocolate and candy.
You name it! Our favorite time of the day was when we had a big break in between classes and we would go home to her place and make a chocolate cake with ice cream and then eat the whole thing! After a school trip to Spain, just before my graduation, I looked at the pictures of myself and got disgusted! I had gained about 30 lbs over 2,5 years and I knew I had to do something about it.
I joined weight watchers and lost about 20 lbs but since I still did a lot of exercising I wasn't eating enough and my body didn't want to let go of the last pounds.
I then started reading and learning everything I could about training, nutrition and I also started lifting weights. I lost all the weight I had gained back and then some. It almost went too far and all of a sudden I was 105 lbs with NO muscle. I wanted an athletic and muscular body but didn't know how to achieve it.
After I graduated (studied natural science) I worked in an office but wasn't really happy. I wanted to dance. A teacher of mine told me about a school in New York, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and after some research I decided to apply. I don't think I've ever been happier than when I received the acceptance letter.
I moved to New York in 2003 and after 2 years of fun, sweat and tears I graduated with a certificate in dance. After too many injuries I realize that I had to listen to my body and I had to stop dancing. I still lifted weights but I definately wasn't eating enough to put on any muscle. I thought I was eating healthy but couldn't understand why I didn't look like the girls in the magazines.
Since I've always been interested in training and nutrition I decided to get certified as a personal trainer. I started working at New York Sports Club and soon after I got my certification from NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine). I love the part of the job where you are able to change peoples lifes to the better. As far as my own training I still couldn't figure out the equation food vs training for maximun results and I also really missed having a goal with my training. In may 2006 I attended Monica Brants' FEM Camp in Rhode Island and suddenly I found the missing piece of the puzzle. I wanted to compete in figure. I had a blast and met so many girls with the same interests as me. Kim Oddo was one of the lecurers and right away I knew I wanted to work with him. I left the camp with a new goal: to compete in NPC Tournament of champions September 2006.
The road to the competition was one of the biggest challenges I've ever done but it gave me such great satisfaction and I'm so proud of myself. I really wanted to step on stage with the best package I could and all the hard work definately paid off.
It's taken me some time to figure out what I want to do with my life, but I definately know I have found my true calling. I love how adapting a healthy lifestyle can change people's lifes and to be there and see the changes is truly amazing.
